Keith Ellison

Keith Ellison (4 August 1963–) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-MN 5) from 3 January 2007 to 3 January 2019, succeeding Martin Sabo and preceding Ilhan Omar, and Attorney General of Minnesota from 3 January 2019, succeeding Lori Swanson.

Biography[]

Keith Ellison was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1963, and he worked as a lawyer after graduating from college. He served in the State House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007, and was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2006 as a member of the Democratic Party. He was the first Muslim to be elected to the US Congress (having converted from Islam at the age of 19). He was affiliated with the Progressive Democrats, and he became the Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee on 25 February 2017. In 2018, he decided to run for Attorney General of Minnesota, and he won the election.
