Keisuke Kawashima (4 June 1891 – 5 May 1975) was a Lieutenant-General of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.
Biography[]
Keisuke Kawashima was born on 4 June 1891 in Kashihara, Nara Prefecture, Japan. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1912 and from the Army War College in 1920, and Kawashima rose in the ranks during the Interwar Years. Kawashima was promoted to Colonel in 1937 and to Lieutenant-General in 1942, and he took command of the IJA 84th, 85th, and 86th Infantry Regiments in Burma during the Pacific War. By June 1944, he was fighting a defensive war against the British Army in Gangaw, and the US Air Force bombed Kawashima's regiments on the orders of General Benjamin O. Davis Jr.. His army surrendered to the British in August 1945 after being forced out of Burma.
