Keiji Amano was a Japanese-American soldier who served in the US Army's 442nd Infantry Regiment on the Italian front of World War II. After the war, he and several other demobilized nisei veterans joined the Democratic coalition that brought about a peaceful shift in power away from the rule of Republican-backed sugar industrialists after 1954.
