Kavadh II

Kavadh II (590-6 September 628) was Shahanshah of the Sassanid Empire from 25 February to 6 September 628, succeeding Khosrau II and preceding Ardashir III.

Biography[]

Kavadh was the son of Khosrau II and Mariam Arabissinos, and he was the grandson of Emperor Maurice of Byzantium through his mother. In 628, after the Battle of Nineveh led to his father becoming unpopular, Kavadh had his father and brothers executed by nobleman Mihr Hormozd before having him executed as well. He died of plague a few months later, and his son Ardashir III succeeded him.
