Katie Ledecky

Kathleen Genevieve "Katie" Ledecky (17 March 1997-) was a five-time Olympic gold medalist and nine-time world champion in competitive swimming, representing the United States.

Biography[]

Katie Ledecky was born on 17 March 1997 in Washington DC, United States to a father of Czech and Jewish descent and a mother of Irish descent. She began to swim at the age of six, and she was on the Bethesda, Maryland Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart's swim team until her graduation in 2015. She made the 2012 Olympic team in Beijing and won a gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the age of 15, the youngest American participant in the Olympics. She proceeded to win four medals at the 2013 World Championships, five at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, and five at the 2015 World Championships, and she competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the US team. She won four gold medals and one silver, the first swimmer to win the 200, 400, and 800-meter freestyle at the same Olympics since Debbie Meyer at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
