The Kassites (1460 BC-1210 BC) were a dynasty that ruled in Babylon in southern Iraq and Kuwait, taking over the Old Babylonian Empire after migrating from the Zagros Mountains. By 1155 BC they were conquered by the Elamite Empire and the Assyrian Empire.
History[]
After the golden age of the Old Babylonian Empire ended in the 1600s BC, the Kassites of the Zagros Mountains migrated into southern Mesopotamia and conquered Babylon. They retained names in their native language but otherwise embraced the Babylonian language and culture and intermarried with the native population. They reigned for 250 years, defending their core area and trading for raw materials but not pursuing territorial conquest. They were conquered by the Elamites and Assyrians by 1155 BC.
