The Kaskians were an Anatolian people who lived between the Hittite core region of eastern Anatolia and the Black Sea in northeastern Anatolia. They originated in northern Anatolia, and their resistance prevented the northward expansion of the Hittites. During the "Late Bronze Age collapse" of 1200 BC, they penetrated into eastern Anatolia and thrust southwards. Their advance was later halted by the Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser III, and their remnants passed north-eastwards into the Caucasus, where they blended with the future Colchians.
