The Kartids were a Sunni Muslim Tajik dynasty who ruled over Khorasan from Herat from 1244 to 1381. The Kartids traced their lineage back to the Ghurids, and they emerged as vassals of the Ilkhanate, ruling over Khorasan. On the death of Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan in 1335, the Ilkhanate disintegrated, and the Kartids soon broke away and formed an independent principality. However, the Kartids were conquered by the Timurid Empire in 1381, with Timur peacefully capturing Herat. In 1383, Miran Shah crushed a Kartid revolt, and Miran Shah killed the last Kartids in 1396.
