Karoly Vecsey

Karoly Vecsey (24 November 1803-6 October 1849) was a general of the Honved of Hungary during the Hungarian War of Independence.

Biography[]

Karoly Vecsey was born on 24 November 1803 in the Austrian Empire, and he did not speak Hungarian as a child, as his parents both spoke other primary languages. Vecsey commanded a regiment of Hussars during the Hungarian War of Independence in 1848-1849, fighting against Serbian Vojvodina when they allied with Austria in exchange for more rights. Vecsey was captured and was one of the 13 Martyrs of Arad executed by Austria after the war's end.
