Karol Ziemski (24 May 1895 – 17 January 1974) was a general of Poland and the Home Army during World War II.
Biography[]
Karol Ziemski was born on 24 May 1895 in Nasutow, Lubartow County, Congress Poland. He served in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I, and in January 1918 he joined the Polish Army upon the independence of Poland. He led the Polish 36th Infantry Regiment at the start of World War II, and after Poland was occupied by Nazi Germany, Ziemski became a commander of the Home Army, fighting in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Ziemski was imprisoned until May 1945, when he was liberated by the United States; he died in London, United Kingdom on 17 January 1974.
