Karl Wilhelm von Grolmann

Karl Wilhelm Georg von Grolmann (30 July 1777-1 June 1843) was a general of Prussia during the Napoleonic Wars.

Biography[]

Karl Wilhelm von Grolmann was born in Berlin, Brandenburg (present-day Germany) in Prussia in 1777. In 1790 he joined the Prussian Army at the age of 13, and fought in the French Revolutionary Wars. He became an intimate friend of Gerhard von Scharnhorst and served as a staff officer from the Battle of Jena to the Treaty of Tilsit in 1806 to 1807 during the Napoleonic Wars.

In 1809, Grolmann traveled to Spain to lead the Spanish resistance against the invasion of France. He fought in the Battle of Albuera in addition to Saguntum and Valencia, where he was captured. He later escaped to Switzerland and in 1813 again became a general of Prussia, fighting conspicuously in the War of the Sixth Coalition and the Defense of France in 1813-1814.

After the Napoleonic Wars, he became a civil administrator in the Grand Duchy of Posen (part of present-day Poland) and died in 1843.
