
Karl Philipp Sebottendorf (17 July 1740-11 April 1818) was a Field Marshal of the Austrian Empire during the French Revolutionary Wars.
Biography[]
Sebottendorf was born in Luxembourg, Austrian Netherlands, Holy Roman Empire on 17 July 1740, and he rise to the rank of colonel in 1787 after fighting in the War of the Bavarian Succession. In 1793, he was promoted to Major-General in the Reichsarmee and became a brigade commander during the French Revolutionary Wars. Sebottendorf was promoted to Lieutenant Field Marshal on 4 March 1796 while fighting against the French Armee d'Italie during the Italian Campaign, and he served under Johann Beaulieu during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign against Mantua, losing at the Battle of Lodi. From 1801 to 1806, he served as the assistant commander of Austrian forces in Tyrol, and he died in Vienna in 1818 with the title of freiherr.
