Karl Blaine (16 December 1960-2010) was a Swedish CIA sleeper asset who was based in Panau at the time of the Panauan Civil War, during which he died.
Biography[]
Karl Blaine was born in Motala, Sweden on 16 December 1960. He worked for the Swedish agricultural development organization Mothers for Fruit for Life before becoming a CIA sleeper asset on the island of Panau, coming to be an expert on the island's affairs under Pandak Panay's regime. However, he was only rarely activated, and he took to gambling and drinking heavily. The CIA agent Jade Tan was sent to watch over him as his girlfriend, but, in 2010, Blaine foolishly protested the planned demolition of the Panau Falls Casino, drawing the attention of the Panauan Army and causing Tan to sever her ties with him. Agent Rico Rodriguez rescued a drunk Blaine from the army, and Blaine in turn agreed to introduce him to the Reapers, Roaches, and Ular Boys crime syndicates to help him gather information on Tom Sheldon's whereabouts; he also gave him beacons he could use to contact the arms dealer "Sloth Demon," unaware that he and Sheldon were the same person. Blaine was later captured by the army and interrogated, and Blaine - having bugged Rodriguez's PDA - leaked that information to the government when he was captured. Blaine was imprisoned at the Wajah Ramah Fortress, from which he received erroneous reports of Tan's death after giving up her location to Pandak Panay. When Rodriguez and the Reapers stormed the fortress, Blaine escaped and confronted Panay, vowing to avenge Tan's supposed death. He pulled the pin of a grenade, grabbed Panay, and jumped from a balcony, killing himself and wounding Panay in the ensuing explosion.
