Karim Khalili

Karim Khalili was Vice President of Afghanistan from 2004. 

Biography[]

Khalili was born in Wardak Province to a Shi'ite Hazara family and attended a religious school. He was an active supporter of the Mujahideen during the 1980s in the Soviet-Afghan War, and in the 1990s he served as Minister of Finance for the Islamic State of Afghanistan. He fought for the Northern Alliance during the Afghan Civil War, and resisted the Taliban until the Taliban were evicted in 2001. In 2004 he became the Vice President of Afghanistan under President Hamid Karzai.
