Karantina massacre

The Karantina massacre occurred on 18 January 1976 when members of the right-wing, Christian Lebanese Front overran the Muslim slum of Karantina in Beirut, Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War, massacring 1,500 of its residents. The massacre was a sign of increasing militancy among the armed factions in Lebanon and the lack of control by the Lebanese government, which was powerless to stop such horrendous acts of violence.
