The Karabiner 98k, also known as the Kar98k, was a bolt-action rifle used by Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945 and by Eastern Bloc countries since 1945. Millions of rifles were produced for the German Wehrmacht and the Axis Powers during World War II, and several of them fell into Soviet hands after the end of the war. The Soviets distributed these rifles as military aid, and their allies across the world would adopt Kar98ks as their rifles of choice. Since World War II, the Kar98k has seen service in the Greek Civil War, 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Korean War, First Indochina War, Chinese Civil War, Suez Crisis, and several wars in Africa and the Middle East. Most recently, the weapon has been seen in Iraq and Syria's civil wars.
