The Kapp Putsch was an attempted coup launched by conservative, nationalist, and monarchist factions of the German Weimar Republic government on 13 March 1920. The coup was led by monarchist politician Wolfgang Kapp and the Reichswehr general Walther von Luettwitz, and the coup occurred in the capital of Berlin, where the putscher soldiers forced the government to flee. However, the uprising did not have popular support, and a general strike forced the putschers to stand down; General Hans von Seeckt arrived with Reichswehr troops to put down the coup. The coup's failure was a temporary blow to the far-right faction of German politics, but political strife would continue for the next thirteen years.
