Kanrei, (管領) sometimes referred to as kanryō, was a high-ranking political post during the Sengoku period in Japan. Roughly being translated as "the shogun's deputy", the role is considered an evolution of the traditional Rokuhara Tandai, a judicial group that also operated as a secret police agency. By the time of the Ashikaga Shogunate, there were two Kanreis, one in Kyoto and one in the outlying regions of Kanto.
