Kanemaru Tsuda

Kanemaru Tsuda was an Imperial Japanese Army officer who was stationed in Korea during the Russo-Japanese War. In 1902, he and fellow officer Hasa Yamada were beaten down by Acting US Consul Eugene Choi after Choi caught them assaulting two Korean children for bumping into them, leading to the two Japanese officers retaliating by leading their company onto the grounds of the American legation and demanding that Choi be handed over. The ensuing standoff was resolved after Choi warned them that they would be declaring war on the United States if they attempted to seize him by force, and the Japanese officers were ultimately persuaded to stand down.
