Kamon Kanai

Kamon Kanai was a Japanese yakuza who served as captain of Ousaka Enterprises, a powerful subsidiary of the Omi Alliance.

Biography[]

Kamon Kanai was born in Osaka, Japan, and he became a member of the Omi Alliance yakuza organization. The large and severely bulky Kanai came to work for Ousaka Enterprises patriarch Naoki Katsuya, but the brutish Kanai differed from the tactful Katsuya, preferring violence as a means of achieving his goals.

In 2012, the opportunistic Kanai conspired with Chairman Tsubasa Kurosawa to bring about the downfall of Katsuya as part of Kurosawa's plot to hand over the Omi and the rival Tojo-kai to his son, Masato Aizawa. When word got out that the missing Goro Majima had sent a letter to his ex-wife Mirei Park requesting to meet her in Tokyo, Kanai was assigned to track down the letter and find Majima's location so that he could be eliminated. To this end, Kanai had his debtor Kan Ogita interrogate Park about the letter's location, but, after Ogita killed her, Kanai had him throw her from the roof of Dyna Chair to make it look like a suicide. Kanai himself attempted to interrogate Park's employee Hiroshi Horie, but, when he also failed to cooperate, Kanai threw him from the roof, leaving him severely injured in another staged suicide attempt. Kanai later captured Ogita and punished him for his failure to find the letter by amputating his arm at the Ousaka Enterprises junkyard. There, Park's crediotr Shun Akiyama confronted Kanai, demanding to find Katsuya and confront him over Park's forged suicide note. Kanai was able to execute Ogita before Akiyama beat him down.

Kanai then resorted to desperate measures by kidnapping Haruka from Dyna Chair, and he threatened to harm Haruka if she did not give up the letter. Katsuya, who was secretly in league with Majima and Park and had leaked the letter to weed out the Omi's traitor, punched Kanai and returned Haruka to Dyna Chair. When Katsuya asked for Haruka to give him Majima's letter (unbeknownst to her, so he could remove the threatening letter from circulation) at Shin-Osaka Station, Kanai beat him there and attempted to force Haruka to hand over the letter. Akiyama arrived just in time to stop Kanai, defeating him a second time. Katsuya later confronted Kanai about his unauthorized actions against Park, tortuting him by burning a cigar above Kanai's left eye and calling him useless for being unable to scare Harula.

When Kurosawa mounted his all-out invasion of Tokyo days later, Kanai led his army into Kabukicho as Kurosawa attempted to lure Kazuma Kiryu, Goro Majima, Taiga Saejima, Masaru Watase, and Katsuya into a death trap. Kanai rescued Kurosawa from a rooftop confrontation with Daigo Dojima, shooting Dojima in the back and hospitalizing him before leaving with the boss. Not long after, Kanai led his army of henchmen into Theater Square, intent on taking control of the neighborhood while Masato Aizawa killed Kiryu, Saejima was forced to kill Majima, and Katsuya and Daigo would die of their wounds in the hospital Kiryu and Akiyama teamed up to fight off hundreds of Kanai's henchmen until the Kitakata-gumi, Yamagasa-gumi, and Watase-gumi arrived in full force, surrounding the remnants of Kanai's army. Watase informed Kanai that he was on the "shit list" of every yakuza in the country, and Kanai, full of despair, fell to his knees and surrendered, while all of Kurosawa's other plots were concurrently foiled.
