The Kamakura Shogunate was a feudal military government of Japan that ruled from Kamakura from 1192 to 1333. Minamoto Yoritomo founded the shogunate in the aftermath of the Genpei War, and two more Minamoto daimyo would rule the shogunate, followed by two Fujiwara and the rest being of various clans, including minor Imperial princes. The Hojo clan assumed regency over the shoguns after 1203, and they were the real rulers of the shogunate until their fall in 1333, when Emperor Go-Daigo launched a rebellion against the Hojo clan and seized Kamakura. The Kemmu Restoration followed as the Emperor attempted to retake power, but Ashikaga Takauji would crush the Emperor's forces and claim power for the new Ashikaga Shogunate shortly after.
