The Spartan mercenary Kassandra later discovered Kallias' affiliation from an Olympic Declaration listing Kallias as a "Master Grappler, fighting in the name of Kosmos". In 428 BC, she came across Kallias in the flesh after Kallias was introduced by fellow judge Leander as an honored guest at the Olympics; Kallias had been sent by King Pausanias of Sparta, a fellow Cultist, to break the Olympic truce and poison the Olympic banquet in a display of force by the Cult. Kallias used a slow-acting poison on the attendees of the banquet, including his fellow judge Demophanes (who died) and Alcibiades (who narrowly lived), and, after discovering that Alcibiades had been poisoned, Kassandra came across Kallias as he casually walked down the street and stabbed him in the back with her spear fragment, publicly assassinating him and avenging his victims' deaths.
