Kaletor the Flower

Kaletor the Flower (died 422 BC) was a Greek mercenary who was active during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]

Kaletor was an easily-angered man who reveled in the chaos of battle, but troops called him "the Flower" to his back because he had been known to cry. It's said he once overheard a single man making fun of him. He responded by killing the man and creating a garden using his bones as flowers.

In 422 BC, Athens hired Kaletor the Flower as its champion ahead of the Battle of Kerkis in Messenia. He was slain by the Spartan mercenary Kassandra in the ensuing battle.
