Kagemitsu (-) was the daimyo of the Hatakeyama clan who was a vassal of the Kamakura Minamoto clan. Feeble and destitute, he was also ambitious and treacherous, making him an unreliable ally of the Minamoto, whom he was indifferent to.
Biography[]
Kagemitsu became the daimyo of the Hatakeyama clan in 1175, and was aligned with the Taira clan. However, through diplomacy he became a vassal of the Kamakura Minamoto branch of the powerful Minamoto family of warriors. Kagemitsu was loyal until 1190, when Emperor Go-Toba issued a proclamation that said that the Minamoto were enemies of the state. Kagemitsu joined in this coalition of former Minamoto vassals and allies and captured Kyoto in later 1191.
