The Jutes were a Germanic tribe from Denmark who were one of the three major tribes of Scandinavia during the Dark Ages, the others being the Angles and Saxons. The Jutes originated in the Jutland peninsula, and their capital was the city of Alabu. In the late 4th century, the Jutes invaded Britain and took over land from the Roman Empire, settling in Kent, Dover, and Hampshire. In 686, the Jutish aristocracy was wiped out by the rival Saxons, and the Jutes were assimilated into the Saxons.
