
Justiniano Borgoño (5 September 1836-27 January 1921) was President of Peru from 1 April to 10 August 1894, succeeding Remigio Morales Bermudez and preceding Andres Avelino Caceres.
Biography[]
Justiniano Borgoño was born in Trujillo, Peru in 1836, the son of General Pedro Antonio Borgoño y Nuñez. Borgoño joined the Peruvian Army in 1856 and fought for the liberal government during the Peruvian Civil War of 1856-1858. During the War of the Pacific, he was injured in the right leg while serving as a colonel at the Battle of San Juan and Chorrillos. After the war, he remained loyal to his commanding officer Andres Avelino Caceres. He fought against Miguel Iglesias in the Peruvian Civil War of 1884-1885, and he served as Vice President to Caceres' ally Remigio Morales Bermudez from 1890 to 1894. On Morales' death, Borgoño took over as President until Caceres was re-elected. Borgoño went on to work as a farmer in Argentina and Lima, and he died in 1921.
