Juno Beach was the codename for a sector of the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day, during World War II. On 6 June 1944, the 3rd Canadian Division was landed near Courseulles, and Hobart's Funnies were vital in helping the troops off the beach, as the Canadians faced heavy resistance from the German defenders. The Canadians cleared most of the coastal defenses within two hours of landing, but their advance towards Carpiquet Airfield and the Caen-Bayeux railroad line was delayed. At 9:00 PM, the Canadians were ordered to halt after facing heavy fighting at Saint-Aubin, but they had advanced the farthest inland of any Allied landing force on the first day.
