Jund al-Aqsa was an Islamist rebel group in Syria formed in January 2014, originally affiliated with the al-Nusra Front before splitting from the group after disagreeing with al-Nusra Front's hostility towards the Islamic State. It morphed from a mostly non-Syrian Arab group in early 2014 to a Syrian-majority group by the end of the year due to defections from other groups. After the split, it had 600 fighters, and on 23 October 2015 it left the Army of Conquest alliance. Jund al-Aqsa decided to merge into Jabhat Fateh al-Sham on 13 October 2016 as infighting with Ahrar ash-Sham took its toll on manpower.
