
Julien Augustin Joseph Mermet (9 May 1772-28 October 1837) was a divisional general of the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars.
Biography[]
Julien Augustin Joseph Mermet was born in Le Quesnoy, France on 9 May 1772, and he joined the French Revolutionary Army during the French Revolutionary Wars and commanded a dragoon regiment in Andre Massena's division during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1806, he and his cavalry division captured Gaeta in Italy. He later served in the Peninsular War, fighting in Spain and Portugal as a cavalry commander. Following the Bourbon Restoration, Mermet and fellow Napoleonic generals Jean Rapp and Louis Francois Coutard were created Gentilshommes de la Chambre. He died in 1837.
