
Julian Giuseppe Mantarro (11 November 1921 – 14 December 2011) was an American soldier during World War II.
Biography[]
Julian Giuseppe Mantarro was born in New York City, New York on 11 November 1921, the son of Italian immigrant parents. Mantarro enlisted in the US Army when World War II broke out in 1941, and he was assigned to the US 506th Infantry Regiment, going through training at Camp Toccoa in Georgia. In 1944, after being stationed in England with the rest of his regiment, he was dropped over Normandy during Operation Overlord, and he took part in the Battle of Sainte-Mere-Eglise on the night of 5–6 June 1944. Mantarro would fight alongside the regiment as it moved into Belgium and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and he ended the war in Austria. Mantarro became a grocer after returning home, and he died in 2011 at the age of 90.
