Julia Marquis

Julia Marquis (1776-) was the wife of Doctor Daniel Marquis and the mother of Artemus and Lea Marquis. She and her family secretly participated in blood sacrifices in a bid to restore her ill daughter's health, and, in 1830, detective Augustus Landor discovered their culpability in the desecration of Cadet Leroy Fry's body. Landor was able to prevent them from killing his friend Edgar Allan Poe, but Lea and Artemus died in a fire accidentally started by Julia. Artemus and Lea were posthumously blamed for Fry's murder, and the judge decided that Julia had suffered enough, while her husband was forced to resign as chief physician of West Point.
