Judge Turner was an American slave owner who owned a plantation in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana during the mid-19th century. During the 1840s, Solomon Northup and a few other slaves were loaned to Turner by his neighbor Edwin Epps after worms destroyed Epps' cotton, and Turner treated Northup kindly, paying him to play the violin for him.
