Judea was a region located in the mountainous southern part of Palestine. From 934 to 586 BC, the Kingdom of Judah existed in the region, which was settled by the Tribe of Judah (descended from one of Jacob's sons). The region retained its name through the Babylonian conquest, Persian, Macedonian, Seleucid, and Roman periods, and it was the homeland of the Jewish people. In 135 AD, following the Bar Kokhba revolt, the region was renamed to Syria Palaestina.
