Juan Manuel Galan Pachon

Juan Manuel Galan Pachon (29 July 1972-) was a Senator of Colombia for the Colombian Liberal Party from 20 July 2006.

Biography[]

Juan Manuel Galan Pachon was born on 29 July 1972, the son of Luis Carlos Galan. He attended the National Pedagogue Institute in Bogota, graduating in 1989, the year that his father was assassinated. At his father's funeral, Galan spoke out about his father's activism against the narcos, and he endorsed Cesar Gaviria as the Colombian Liberal Party's nominee; sure enough, he won the 1990 election. Galan went on to study overseas in France and the United States, and he returned to Colombia in 1997 and entered politics. He was elected to the senate in 2006, and he fought to decriminalize drug use in the country.
