Juan Francisco Echauri

Juan Francisco Echauri (1792-1828) was an Argentine colonel who served in the Argentine War of Independence and the Argentine Civil Wars.

Biography[]

Juan Francisco Echauri was born in Salta, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1792, and he joined the Army of the North during the Argentine War of Independence. He became aide-de-camp to Tucuman governor Bernabe Araoz before supporting Abraham Gonzalez in restoring Araoz to power in 1819 during the Argentine Civil Wars. He later served as lieutneand governor of Santiago del Estero before being overthrown by rival Federalist Juan Felipe Ibarra. In 1822, he overthrew Gonzalez and expelled him t Buenos Aires, placing Diego Araoz in power in Salta. After Araoz's execution, he moved to Salta in 1824, and he participated in the revolution against Juna Antonio Alvarez de Arenales in 1826. He died in 1828.
