Juan Antonio Abaroa () was a general of Bolivia during the Argentine Liberation of Alto Paraguay.
Biography[]
Abaroa was a commander of the army of Bolivia, and fought against the Argentine Confederation and Paraguay during the Argentine Liberation of Paraguay. In 1841 he fought the Battle of Tarija with Paraguay, and he nearly won, had it not been for Argentine reinforcements. Yet at the Battle of Chuquisaca on 6 December, he routed the Allied army and saved Bolivia. During the Paraguayan Liberation of Alto Paraguay (1850-1856) he defeated Paraguay's army many times, but was defeated in the Second Battle of Rivadavia with Argentina and the war was lost. In 1862, during the Argentinian Conquest of Jujuy, his army was once more annihilated in the Battle of Santiago del Estero.
