
Jovan Divjak (11 March 1937-8 April 2021) was a General in the ARBiH during the Bosnian War. An ethnic Serb, he sided with Bosnia and Herzegovina against the Republika Srpska.
Biography[]
Jovan Divjak was born in Belgrade, SR Serbia, Yugoslavia in 1937 to a family of Bosnian Serbs, and he rose in the ranks of the Yugoslav People's Army. He commanded the Mostar sector from 1984 to 1989 and the Sarajevo sector from 1989 to 1991. During the Bosnian War, Divjak sided with Bosnia and Herzegovina against the Republika Srpska, despite his Serb descent, and he was deputy commander of the ARBiH from 1993 to 1997. However, he left the military due to the Bosniaks' lack of appreciation for his abilities. He was briefly arrested in 2011 on suspicion of committing war crimes, and he died in 2021 at the age of 84.
