Jotunheim was, in Norse mythology, one of the "Nine Worlds" and the home of the Frost Giants. The giants of Jotunheim menaced the humans of Midgard and the gods in Asgard, which bordered Asgard across the River Ifing. The last great war between Jotunheim and Asgard was fought in 965, resulting in the Battle of Tonsberg; King Odin of Asgard defeated King Fárbauti of Jotunheim and slew most of the Frost Giants before forcing them to agree to a long peace.
