Josiah Quincy Jr.

Josiah Quincy Jr. (17 January 1802-2 November 1882) was the Whig Mayor of Boston from 11 December 1845 to 1 January 1849, succeeding Thomas Aspinwall Davis and preceding John P. Bigelow.

Biography[]

Josiah Quincy Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1802, the son of Josiah Quincy III. He graduated from Harvard in 1821 and served in the state militia before becoming a state legislator in 1837 and cofounding the Massachusetts Board of Education. He went on to serve as Mayor from 1845 to 1849, and he died in 1882.
