
Joseph Vincent McKee (8 August 1889-28 January 1956) was the Democratic Mayor of New York City from 1 September to 31 December 1932, succeeding Jimmy Walker and preceding John P. O'Brien.
Biography[]
Joseph Vincent McKee was born in New York City, New York in 1889, and he worked as a high school teacher in the Bronx before becoming active in Democratic politics through Tammany Hall. He served in the State Assembly from 1918 to 1923, as a municipal judge from 1924 to 1926, and on the Board of Aldermen from 1926 to 1932, when he served as acting mayor. He failed to secure re-election, and he later served as a delegate to the 1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944 Democratic National Conventions and died in 1956.
