Joseph S. Frelinghuysen Sr.

Joseph S. Frelinghuysen Sr. (12 March 1869-8 February 1948) was US Senator from New Jersey (R) from 4 March 1917 to 3 March 1923, succeeding James E. Martine and preceding Edward I. Edwards.

Biography[]

Joseph S. Frelinghuysen Sr. was born in Raritan, Somerset County, New Jersey in 1869, and he was the grandson of War of 1812 general John Frederick Frelinghuysen. He fought in the Spanish-American War before starting an insurance business and he was elected to the State Senate in 1905. Frelinghuysen served in the US Senate from 1917 to 1923, and he died in 1948.
