Joseph Kerr (1765-22 August 1837) was a US Senator from Ohio from 10 December 1814 to 4 March 1815, succeeding Thomas Worthington and preceding Benjamin Ruggles. He was a Democratic-Republican.
Biography[]
Joseph Kerr was born in Kerrtown, Pennsylvania in 1765, and he moved to Ohio in 1792. He served as a clerk, surveyor, judge, and justice of the peace in the Northwest Territory, and he served in the State Senate from 1804 to 1806 and in the State House of Representatives from 1808 to 1809 and from 1818 to 1820. From 1814 to 1815, he was appointed to finish Thomas Worthington's term in the US Senate. His farm went bankrupt in 1826, and he moved to Memphis, Tennessee and then to Lake Providence, Louisiana. He died in 1837.
