Joseph Jorgensen

Joseph Jorgensen (11 February 1844-21 January 1888) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-VA 4) from 4 March 1877 to 3 March 1883, succeeding William Henry Harrison Stowell and preceding Benjamin Hooper.

Biography[]

Joseph Jorgensen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1844, and he served as a Union Army surgeon during the American Civil War before settling in Petersburg, Virginia. He served in the House of Delegates from 1872 to 1873, as Postmaster of Petersburg from 1874 to 1877, in the US House of Representatives from 1877 to 1883, and as register of the land office at Walla Walla from 1883 to 1886. He died in Portland, Oregon in 1888.
