Biography[]
Joseph Jones was born in Zion, Illinois (in the Chicago metro area), and he worked as a part-time kitchen worker at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America while also attending college. Around 2015, he converted to Salafi Islam and became a radical Islamist. Jones and Edward Schimenti planned to carry out terrorist attacks in the name of the Islamic State, and the FBI investigated them for two years, sending an informant to recruit them for IS. The two of them helped the informant with buying a cell phone to use as a detonator, and they dropped him off at the O'Hare International Airport so that he could head to Syria to join ISIS. On 13 April 2017, they were both arrested for planning an attack on a US Navy base, preventing their attack from occurring.
