Joseph J. Davenport

Joseph Jackson Davenport (1849-1921) was the Republican Mayor of Kansas City from 1889 to 1890, succeeding Henry C. Kumpf and preceding Benjamin Holmes.

Biography[]

Joseph Jackson Davenport was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1849, and he moved to Kansas City in 1873 and joined the pork-packing business before serving as Mayor from 1889 to 1890. Davenport was known for his rivalry with the Kansas City Star, and, after leaving office, he worked in real estate until his death in 1921.
