Joseph Christopher Yates (9 November 1768-19 March 1837) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of New York from 1 January 1823 to 31 December 1824, interrupting DeWitt Clinton's terms.

Biography[]

Joseph Christopher Yates was born in Schenectady, Schenectady County, New York in 1768, and he practiced law before being elected Mayor of Schenectady in 1798, in the State Senate in 1805, as a State Supreme Court justice in 1808, and as Governor of New York from 1823 to 1824. He served as a Jacksonian presidential elector in 1828, and he died in 1837.
