Joseph Barsabbas (died 68 AD), also known as Justus, was a member of the early Christian Church in Jerusalem.
Biography[]
Joseph Barsabbas was born in Judea, and he was a follower of Jesus from the beginning of his public ministry after baptism he received from John the Baptist. He became a member of the larger company of disciples, and he became one of Jesus' "Seventy Disciples". At a meeting held in Jerusalem after Jesus' ascension to Heaven, the eleven remaining apostles decided that they needed to make another man a witness to Jesus' resurrection. They put forward the names of Joseph Barsabbas and Matthias, and they drew lots and ultimately chose Matthias to join them. He went on to become Bishop of Eleutheropolis (Bayt Jibrin, Palestine), where he died a martyr in 68 AD.
