Josef Dobretsberger (28 February 1903-13 May 1970) was an Austrian lawyer, national economist, and politician.
Biography[]
Josef Dobretsberger was born in Linz, Austria-Hungary on 28 February 1903, and he became a university professor in Graz in 1933. In 1935, he became Social Minister of the Federal State of Austria, and he was known as an amiable and cheerful person. From 1937 to 1938, he served as a rector at the Karl Franzens University in Graz, and he resigned in 1938. He emigrated after the Anschluss, working as a professsor in Istanbul, Turkey and Cairo, Egypt during World War II, and he worked with the SOE during the war. After the war, Dobretsberger became a member of the Austrian People's Party (OVP), but he left the party for the Austrian Democratic Union. He died in 1970.
