Biography[]
Jose Maria Moncada was born in Masatepe, Nicaragua in 1870, and he became a leader of the Liberal Party of Nicaragua's rebellion against the Conservative government of Adolfo Diaz during the 1920s. Moncada and Juan Bautista Sacasa agreed to a US-brokered peace deal, while the more radical Augusto Sandino refused. In 1928, Moncada was elected to succeed Diaz as president, and he ensured that Sacasa won the 1932 election. He died in Managua in 1945.
