
Jose Madriz (21 July 1867-14 May 1911) was President of Nicaragua from 1909 to 1910, succeeding Jose Santos Zelaya and preceding Jose Dolores Estrada Morales. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Nicaragua.
Biography[]
Jose Madriz was born in Leon, Nicaragua in 1867, and he assumed the presidency after Jose Santos Zelaya's 1909 resignation amidst an armed counter-revolution and US opposition. Madriz attempted to organize an anti-imperialist struggle against US interests, but he lacked support, and he was forced to resign and enter exile in Mexico, where he died in 1911.
